The third Barkbusters BLITZ Navigation ride left City Coast Motorcycles on Saturday the 6th July for 2 days of magnificent adventure riding.
Knowing we'd be heading into lot's of red soil territory we'd been keeping a keen eye on the weather. After the final preride just days before the course files were due to go out, a lot of changes were made to ensure we avoided some of the trails that had become unusable.
Day1: 386kms
Wollongong to Batemans Bay
And the result paid off, day one had flowing tar twisties through the gorgeous south coast country side of Jamberoo and Kangaroo Valley, scenic riverside runs, forest trails and a final stretch of blacktop to a lunch stop at Braidwood.
Yeah, I seen that caution on the sheet, I seen it from the ground too!
The afternoon took us out to Majors Creek, descending the range into Araluen with spectacular views from Clarke's lookout.
After following the Araluen Creek and Deua River the route led us into Mogo and the final run to Batemans Bay via a dirt and gravel road stretch with views of the ocean.
After a few drinks and a great meal, the 'not so serious' awards and prizes followed.
Our raffle also raised another $180 towards the RideToStopSuicide
Day2: 136kms plus 2 optional breakouts
Batemans Bay to Milton
Clear blue skies and a bayside breakfast is a pretty good start to any Sunday, and today was up there with the best of them, the southcoast really turned it on.
After a short run along the coast to take in the view, it was straight into the dirt, and it seemed to last forever.
We had a great mix of everything today, open fast and flowing gravel roads, tighter breakout sections, and plenty of 'red slip' to keep everyone on their toes.
Just when I thought I knew where we were going, I looked at my GPS, mmmmmm had to turn around, again!
After a big day on Saturday, today was shorter and really was the Jewel in the crown, although short it was nearly all dirt and for some riders that have done this area before, we added a few detours to make sure they kept an eye on their GPS and route sheets.
We all gathered at Milton for the end of the ride early enough for riders to make their way home at a reasonable hour, some still having 400kms to ride home.
Darren, Michael and Richard headed off taking in a sweet little bonus section that will be included in a future ride, and wow...it's a little ripper!
Absolutely brilliant, bring on the next one!
